Vegetable Smashing Toddler Activity

Vegetable pigment printing! Just for fun we folded veg into watercolour paper and smacked it with toy hammers and rolling pins to release the natural pigments on to the paper.

The red cabbage was very successful and the coriander gave off a lovely smell.

Sticky Fabric Toddler Activity

This week we adapted our sticky wall activity slightly to enable us to make a fabric collage. We used sticky back plastic (the kind you use to cover books) and a bit of masking tape to produce a sticky table. I’ve been collecting scraps of material for ages without much idea of what to do with them. Turns out they are perfect for this. It’s great because we can keep moving the fabric around and peal them off when we are done.

If the plastic hasn’t lost too much sticky you put the wax paper backing back on and save it for another day. We saved ours and put it up o the window the next day to carry the activity on.

Teddy Bear Printing Art Activity

I was so inspired when I saw this photo.

20131022-084052.jpg
I had to try it with the kids! We had plenty of small teddies and lots of washable paint. So we dived straight in! Some of the bears needed a little stuffing removed from their noses to make good prints. We made ink pads from takeaway containers and sponges. Which is a great idea because you can just pop the lid on until next time!

Toddler Art – Dough paint and Artist’s Trowels

I wondered what they would make of this and I liked the idea of giving them an authentic experience. Oil paint would have proved pricey but dough paint proved a super substitute.

20131021-210403.jpg

Dough paint is just flour, water and poster paint. You can make it as thick as you like. We popped it down on some mirror card with some artists trowels and off they went!

They explored spreading and mark making using the tip and sides of the trowel.
Then they just got nice and messy!

Painting With Mini Cotton Reel Rollers

These are very easy to make and lots of fun!

20131015-134232.jpg
I used drinking straws, a stapler, giant beads and cotton reels to make a variety of rollers for paint play! Our Tiny Adventurers had lots of messy fun making colourful patterns.

After a bit the paper was covered, and this little adventurer had lots of fun mark making in the paint. To our delight he created a gorgeous piece of toddler art!

Water Pistol Painting

One of this weeks creative play activities.

20130729-135654.jpgFirst thing is first you need some pistols, so pop to your pound store! Or don’t ! Actually a small pop bottle with a hole in the lid is easier for young toddlers to use, and fires further! We made small holes in each lid using a hammer and a nail.
We pegged up a sheet and watered down some washable paint. Off they when improving their co-ordination while making pretty patterns!
Careful!! This may bring out the toddler in you! Spot the parent above having a little go 🙂

Frozen Water Balloons

Frozen water balloons for tomorrow’s workshop! Water paint squired into a balloon, topped up with water and frozen over night.

Picture Frame Weaving

We’ve found another use for our old picture frame at this morning’s Tiny Adventure workshop. Weaving! As a collaborative activity this is lovely.

20130722-134944.jpg
We used anything we could get our hands on including pipe insulation and bubble wrap!

Picture Frame Painting

Perhaps you have an old frame or a piece of perspex, or maybe some patio doors? Painting on transparent surfaces is lots of fun and creates a lovely stained glass effect! Plastic wrap/cling filmed picture frames work so well because its fun to have children painting on both sides! A bit of finger paint and shaving foam goes a long way and washes off of windows easily!

Seeing Sound- Snap Painting Toddler STEM Activity

Early Years Science and Art.

What I like about this is you get to hear the note, see the vibration, and paint all at the same time! The paint gets everywhere, which makes it fun, and each elastic band vibrates at a different frequency and so has a different pitch, depending on how tight it is.

You need a tray or box lid, bands, paint and paper. Get plucking!
