Water Pistol Painting

One of this weeks creative play activities.

20130729-135654.jpgFirst thing is first you need some pistols, so pop to your pound store! Or don’t ! Actually a small pop bottle with a hole in the lid is easier for young toddlers to use, and fires further! We made small holes in each lid using a hammer and a nail.
We pegged up a sheet and watered down some washable paint. Off they when improving their co-ordination while making pretty patterns!
Careful!! This may bring out the toddler in you! Spot the parent above having a little go 🙂

Picture Frame Weaving

We’ve found another use for our old picture frame at this morning’s Tiny Adventure workshop. Weaving! As a collaborative activity this is lovely.

We used anything we could get our hands on including pipe insulation and bubble wrap!

Picture Frame Painting

Perhaps you have an old frame or a piece of perspex, or maybe some patio doors? Painting on transparent surfaces is lots of fun and creates a lovely stained glass effect! Plastic wrap/cling filmed picture frames work so well because its fun to have children painting on both sides! A bit of finger paint and shaving foam goes a long way and washes off of windows easily!

Pendulum Painting! STEM Activity

Pasta pot, two chairs and a broom, string, paint and paper. Art and Science should never be separated!

This is a fab STEM activity. Investigating pendulums and creating an artistic record of your experimenting at the same time. Depending on the age of your children they can help build the stand, adapt the vessel and tinker with the hole width and viscosity of the paint to get either a smooth line or dots. Or younger ones may just swinging the pendulum with different amounts of force and in different ways to get different patterns.

Painting With Rockets! Pre-School STEM Activity

Fab STEM Activity

Watery paint, plastic film canister containers with push down lids and Alka Seltzer tablets!

You will need to be outside with these! Place half a tab in a container and fill 1/3 with watery paint. Pop on the lid quickly and place lid down on paper. Quickly stand back and see your rocket launch! Then see your the explosion in paint!

Lots of tinkering can be done here and experimenting. Changing the amount of water/paint and tablet for example will all affect how high the rocket goes. And there is plenty to discuss, chemical reactions, gases, pressure, force, gravity and so on. For the very young it’s just fascinating to watch!
